Attochron, LLC is a California company partnered on certain projects with The University of New Mexico, The Georgia Technical Research Institute and others. Attochron is focused on the development of free-space and fiber-optic applications of ultrashort pulse (USP) lasers some of which are the result of collaborative research performed by the Electric Power Research Institute, Inc. Known also as ‘femtosecond’ and ‘attosecond’ lasers, these laser sources open new possibilities for applications including lasercom, remote-sensing and directed energy.
Attochron’s primary focus is improving the safe use of lasers through atmosphere as the common denominator for all of its benefits. Combined with putting more power on target and at further distances than previous laser sources, Attochron USP laser systems will offer unprecedented – and proven – increases in telecommunications bandwidth on the order of terabits/sec using a single USP laser source. The other part of the equation is Attochron’s reception technologies – also proven to be orders of magnitude more sensitive than previous ‘classical’ systems.
Attochron’s rights to these technologies are exclusive and long-term. Attochron’s goal is to work with the world’s leading USP Laser R&D labs globally, U.S. Federal Agencies, Prime Contractors and Commercial Telecommunications Carriers to realize the world’s first highly-available lasercom system operating at bandwidths similar to fiber-optic cables.
