AttoChron

About Attochron, LLC.

Attochron’s roots go back to 1997 when Attochron Founder & CEO, Tom Chaffee, EPRI VP (retired) Dr. Karl Stahlkopf, and ultrafast optical physicist, Dr. Jean-Claude Diels at UNM conceived AWL™. Since then Attochron has added Ultrafast Optics R&D Director John Cabaniss (from GTRC) and FSO communications experts that include former Lucent/Bell-Labs DMTS. Most recently Attochron’s Board of Directors and Investor Circle was joined by undersea telecommunications cable expert John Hibbard, founding Chairman Japan-Australia Cable and CEO of Hibbard Consulting Pty Ltd (Sydney, Australia).

Tom Chaffee TOM CHAFFEE
Founder, Chairman & CEO

Mr. Chaffee launched his career in the field of acoustics and vibration control technologies in 1988 by introducing The Cutting Wedge™ acoustical panel which became the industry leader and was sold to Systems Development Group (Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA) a year later. Afterwards Mr. Chaffee designed and patented the first-ever vibration and electrical isolation gasket system for rack-mounted electronics. Sorbotech™ was tested at UC Boulder and subsequently licensed to Raxxess Corporation (Prospect Park, NJ).  Tom then joined Dr. Peter D'Antonio, AES Fellow and Founder & CEO RPG Diffusor Systems, Inc. (Upper Marlboro, MD, USA) in developing and marketing the patented VDAC™ acoustical panel designs which revolutionized acoustical treatment markets by lowering manufacturing & shipping costs by over 30% while raising performance of bass frequency response, an area long thought optimized. Tom helped to create an R&D relationship for RPG with the USDA's Forest Products Labs (Madison, WI). After working with RPG Tom’s long-time interest in optics was brought to the fore helping design and develop optically-driven authentication and anti-counterfeiting technologies for R&D 100 Award winner Chas Butland. Tom’s transition to optics was complete by 1997 when he, Dr. Karl Stahlkopf (then VP Power Delivery, EPRI) and ultrafast optical physicist Dr. Jean-Claude Diels (University of New Mexico) proposed the concept of a femtosecond laser-based free space optical communications to EPRI (Palo Alto, CA) based on EPRI & UNM’s previous work in lightning research.
